چکیده

Background: The L3 of Lucilia cuprina grow and feed on the living flesh sheep. Besides, they cause cutaneous myiasis. Herbal medicine showed potential efficacy against several pathogens as well insecticidal effects. Objectives: present work aims to investigate effect two volatile oils, Syzygium aromaticum, Mentha longifolia chemical neonicotinoid, imidacloprid (IMI), developmental stages L. cuprina. Material Methods: Early were exposed five concentrations three selected compounds under investigation. procedures replicated four times for each concentration, 25 larvae used replicate. Average larval mortality rates subjected probit model analysis calculating LC25, LC50, LC90. Acetylcholine esterase (Ach E) activity was measured using acetylcholine bromide Br) substrate because testing have anti -cholinesterase activity. Results: It observed that oil LC50 M. (3.35%) gave higher third instar compared with produced by S. aromaticum (6.06%). IMI most effective larvicidal agent 0.000853%. Both oils induced complete disintegration in epicuticle epidermis integument, extensive damage epithelial cells midgut. Treatments both deformed adult flies, significant highest pupal after treatment IMI, controls. AcH E insignificant reduction essential IMI. Conclusion: inhibitory biology, histology Ach suggest may be considered control agents myiasis causing fly

Morphological identification of Lucilia sericata, Lucilia cuprina and their hybrids (Diptera, Calliphoridae)

Hybrids of Lucilia sericata and Lucilia cuprina have been shown to exist in previous studies using molecular methods, but no study has shown explicitly that these hybrids can be identified morphologically. Published morphological characters used to identify L. sericata and L. cuprina were reviewed, and then scored and tested using specimens of both species and known hybrids. Ordination by multi...

Sexual development in Lucilia cuprina (Diptera, Calliphoridae) is controlled by the transformer gene.

Insects use an amazing variety of genetic systems to control sexual development. A Y-linked male determining gene (M) controls sex in the Australian sheep blowfly Lucilia cuprina, an important pest insect. In this study, we isolated the L. cuprina transformer (Lctra) and transformer2 (Lctra2) genes, which are potential targets of M. The LCTRA and LCTRA2 proteins are significantly more similar t...

Development modeling of Lucilia sericata (Diptera: Calliphoridae)

The relationship between insect development and temperature has been well established and has a wide range of uses, including the use of blow flies for postmortem (PMI) interval estimations in death investigations. To use insects in estimating PMI, we must be able to determine the insect age at the time of discovery and backtrack to time of oviposition. Unfortunately, existing development model...

Estimating population densities of the Australian sheep blowfly Lucilia cuprina (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Calliphoridae) from catches in wind-oriented traps

An analysis of 2-hourly catches of the blowfly, Lucilia cuprina, in 10 wind-oriented fly traps on 34 trapping days (06.00 – 18.00h) during the period November 1984 – May 1985 indicated that air temperature was the principal factor regulating the number of insects caught. Small but significant effects were associated with radiation, time of day and relative humidity; effects due to wind were not...

The effect of microwaves on constituents and antioxidant power of essential oils of Zataria multiflora and Syzygium aromaticum

Background: Hydrodistillation is a current method to extract plant essential oils which is time consuming. It has been proposed that use of microwaves instead of direct heat could decrease the time of distillation. In this study, the effect of microwaves on chemical profile and antioxidant activity of Zatariam multiflora and Syzygium aromaticum essential oils in comparison to current hydrodisti...
